The Sapphire Legal Add-in for Microsoft Word and Outlook
Sapphire Legal publishes an add-in that runs as a task pane inside Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook. It is part of the Sapphire Legal service and is covered by this policy. This section describes what the add-in handles, because it reads content from documents and email on your device.
- Document content. When you ask the add-in to review a contract, the text of the document open in Word is sent to Sapphire Legal for analysis, and is stored against the client and matter you select, in the same way as a document uploaded through the web application. The add-in does not read documents you have not asked it to review.
- Email content. In Outlook, when you choose to file a message to a matter, the subject, body, sender and recipients of that message — and any attachments you select — are sent to Sapphire Legal and stored against that matter. Messages you do not file are not sent.
- Sign-in. The add-in signs you in using your existing Sapphire Legal session. It stores the resulting access tokens on your device using the storage Microsoft Office provides to add-ins, and clears them when you sign out. It never handles your password.
- Which matter a document belongs to. The client and matter you choose for a document is stored with that document by Word, so the pane remembers it next time you open the file.
- What it does not do. The add-in does not read your mailbox, your calendar, your files in OneDrive or SharePoint, or any document other than the one open in front of you. It requests no such permissions from Microsoft.
Content the add-in sends is handled exactly as content submitted through the web application: it is stored in your firm's own tenant and is not used to train models for other customers.
